Highly Favored: A Blessing to Others provided 200 essential hygiene kits, basketball shorts, boxers, beach sandals, t-shirts, socks and more. We shattered our previous fundraising record which allowed us to make a financial contribution of $2,500 to
US Vets Inglewood.
On Memorial Day, we Remember and Honor those who served and fought for our country. “Thank you for putting the rest of your life on hold to serve “Thank you for the sacrifices you made being away from your family.”

8th Mother’s Day Brunch Good Shepherd Center 5/2/25
Highly Favored: A Blessing to Others had the honor and privilege to celebrate the women living at Good Shepherd Center. Tears of joy and happiness was spread throughout the 8th Mother’s Day Brunch. We provided a catered Marie Callender’s Brunch, 50 Mother’s Day Baskets, 50 hygiene filled purses, jewelry, raffle prizes and more. Enrichment activities included praise hula dancers, Empowering painting activity for the moms and arts and crafts for the children. Yesterday we made magic. We are grateful for the support of our donors and volunteers that help make these events possible. Special thanks to UNAC/UHCP, Mocha Moms Los Angeles, Prayer Warriors, Jewelry donated by Valerie’s Jewel Hive, 50 purses filled with women’s hygiene items donated from Atherton Baptist Church and our live band and dancers from Calvary Chapel. Thank you all for Being A Blessing to Others!
Mother’s Day Basket Making Event 4/27/2025
We are grateful for our supporters and volunteers to help prepare behind the scenes for our upcoming events. Special shout out to Mocha Moms Los Angeles who came with their Mocha chips to help assemble 50 Mother’s Day baskets for our event. They went above and beyond, creating heartfelt handwritten cards wishing the moms a Happy Mother’s Day — and it was wonderful to see them bonding, laughing, and embracing the spirit of service.
This day was not only about giving back — it was about coming together as a community, and you all made it unforgettable. We truly are a blessing to others when we move together in love and service.

SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Mohamed Ahmed is a first-generation Somali college student studying Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience for a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology. He loves cardiovascular research and wants to fight heart disease in Somalia’s underserved areas. Despite financial hardships, Mohamed gained healthcare experience as a medical scribe and pharmacy technician. He is driven to improve healthcare access and outcomes because of his grandmother’s heart disease.
Morgan Berry is an outstanding high school senior with a 4.0 GPA who will study health sciences at Spelman College before attending medical school. As an Afro-Latina, Morgan wants to reduce maternal health disparities and diversify medicine. Morgan champions education and equity by mentoring youth, teaching violin, and co-leading her school’s Black Student Union. She wants to become a doctor and improve healthcare for all.
Tia Harris, certified nursing assistant, is pursuing her master’s degree in Physician Assistant (PA) Studies master’s and focuses on culturally competent healthcare. She saw firsthand how a lack of diverse medical professionals affects patient care while growing up in an underserved community. She dedicated herself to mentoring pre-PA students and volunteering with Toys for Tots and the Epworth Foundation to close that gap. Tia wants to increase healthcare representation and make patients feel heard.
Shiria Hicks, a high school senior and certified nursing assistant, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is determined to provide compassionate care to low-income patients despite personal hardships. Shiria has tutored Black students and helped people facing housing issues. Her experiences motivate her to promote healthcare accessibility and inspire future Black nurses.
Oluchukwu Okwu, a first-generation Nigerian-American registered nurse, is pursuing a Master of Science in nursing at UCSF to become a family nurse practitioner. Oluchukwu has led community health assessments and blood donation drives to promote health equity in underserved communities. She advocates for policy changes, mentors healthcare professionals, and expands access to quality care.
